What should I wear for running in winter in the UK?

For winter running in the UK, layering is key. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer (long sleeve compression top or performance tee) to pull sweat away from your skin. Add a mid-layer fleece or sweatshirt for warmth, and a lightweight water-resistant jacket as your outer layer. On your legs, wear thermal or fleece-lined running leggings. Finish with a pair of road running trainers with a grippy outsole for wet pavements.

What are the best leggings for running in cold weather?

For cold weather running, look for high-waisted leggings made from a polyester-spandex blend with a brushed or fleece-lined interior. These provide warmth without bulk, maintain four-way stretch for full range of movement, and wick moisture away from the skin during high-intensity runs. Our compression leggings are a popular choice for winter training.

What running shoes are best for wet UK winter conditions?

For running on wet UK roads and pavements in winter, choose trainers with a grippy rubber outsole for traction, a cushioned midsole for impact absorption on hard surfaces, and a breathable but water-resistant upper. Avoid mesh-only uppers in heavy rain — look for overlays or treated fabrics for better weather resistance.

How do I stay warm without overheating on a winter run?

The key is moisture-wicking fabrics in every layer. Avoid cotton, which absorbs sweat and becomes cold and heavy. Our polyester-spandex base layers and performance tops move moisture away from your skin, keeping you warm at the start of your run and comfortable as your body temperature rises. A zip-up jacket allows you to regulate temperature mid-run.
